Originally built as a hotel to accommodate guests far and wide. They would come from inland to the harbour to buy goods such as tea, sugar and spices. Those days it took 6 hours from the harbour to the manor to spend the night and rest. We have a bar facility & pool to enjoy and relax in. Ideally situated close to the sandy white beaches, game reserves, casino, movies, shopping centers, restaurants, health spa, quad biking & bird watching, we the ideal stop over for the wary travelers or for those who want to break away in a country setting. Those days, it took 6 hours from the harbour to the manor to spend the night and rest. This is the bridge over the Gonubie River, just before Gonubie-Manor. (You can still see some of the structure next to the bridge we use today.) The McKenzie sons built it and Malcomess had the liquor license. to the Key plan and photo’s of Gonubie Park Estate.) Copies of the plan and price lists could be had on request and picked up from No 53, Oxford Street, East London in those years. In his advertising campaign, he described that these plots were on a gradual slope with a sea frontage of approximately one and a half miles and extended inland for over two miles to a frontage along the Gonubie River of nearly three miles. At Gonubie-Manor we understand that every wedding should be different and we go out of our way to make sure that your wedding day is extra special. Gonubie-Manor is situated just outside of East London on the banks of the Gonubie River. We provide a beautiful country feel, in an immaculately sculptured garden. Both are decorated in neutral colours and have extensive draping possibilities. Essentially we have a blank canvass that we can use to create the ambience that you require. We have two outdoor areas which are very different and yet very special for your occasion. The thatched, sandstone manor house has a distinct Herbert Baker design feel to it. The setting will transport your guests back in time. We have so many varied backdrops to create awesome wedding pictures to suit every taste. Of course there is the manor house, built in the 1800’s, which is very special and unique. The original manor house was built to stand the test of time. The rock art setting provides a unique and interesting background. We also have an old ox wagon on site which makes for a great backdrop. Our Alpine Cottages transport one to a fantasy place and of course the dam also makes for a tranquil background. Your photographer will find plenty of inspiration to make the recording of your day spectacular. If you have a number of out of town guests we offer a number of accommodation options. From our two star semi self catering Alpine Units, four and six sleeper units, some double rooms and now our luxury Umlambo Units, there is a bed for all price ranges and comfort levels. At Gonubie-Manor we offer a variety of decor options. We drape outside areas where appropriate and generally are well experienced at creating a fantasy canvass for your perfect wedding. Our cuisine is a fusion of South African flavours with both modern and old fashion trends. We have a number of menu options available, for you to choose from, dependent on your budget. We are happy to accommodate your specific requirements into your menu selection. We have catered for school groups, serving hot dogs as a snack to seven star corporate functions with five star meals. So if it’s a 5 course meal you require or a more traditional dish we are happy to discuss your requirements.
